Board asks for faculty advice

"My first question would be, how do you assure the campus community that there will be transparency in the search? Recent information has shown that you are a close friend with a newly appointed Board member Marvin "Bunky" Wright," Staab said.
The very nature of higher institutions, Hutchinson said, is democratic and therefore create consulting committees like the one being formed in this presidential search. In response to his friendship with newly-appointed Board member Wright, he agreed that the two have been colleagues for many years.
"...The board will be constituting itself as a search committee. They're establishing a strong constituency-based group of what I was told was a search advisory committee that will be evaluating candidates that are forwarded to them by the board. It will be constituency-based and faculty-based." Huthcinson said. "I know Bunky Wright, I've known him for a long time. We've both served at the University of Missouri, he knew I had a consulting firm, and I was doing a little bit of consulting. This is my only search that I'm working on, and I won't work on another one."
Other requests for a presidential candidate included holding a doctorate degree, being a good outside marketer, and someone who can be embraced by the entire community and campus.
"There are perceptions, shared by a lot of people on campus, of favoritism with the Board. In particular, candidates with relationships, business or otherwise, with Board members, is going to feed that perception and would have a hard time gaining confidence of the community," Mike Sauer, chair of the Modern Languages Department, said.

It is great, that the Board of Governors approved a contract with the firm Hutchinson Consulting.
