"Moving Forward, Giving Back" is this year's theme for homecoming 2006. The theme pays respect to the University's motto, "Education for Service" that was introduced in 1916.

Throughout the 2006 homecoming, on Oct. 13 through Oct. 14, the University will celebrate how CMSU students, staff and alumni share their talents and resources to assist the institution and the Warrensburg community.

"I'm really excited about homecoming because it will be a fun experience and the atmosphere on campus will be great," Lauren Schumer, student, said.

During homecoming week, students will put spirit into the school, carrying on one of the University's longest traditions. Homecoming is a week-long annual celebration where students compete for the title of king and queen, create parade floats and perform cheers to help create excitement in the community.

"I can't wait for homecoming because I'm in a sorority and we participate in events throughout the week. I'm excited for the football game too," Ellen Guier, member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, said.

Homecoming is not just for students, it is also for alumni and the Warrensburg community. Alumni will be able to reconnect with classmates and professors as well as see how the city and campus have changed.

The alumni will also have their distinguished dinner that will honor alumni Jim Crane and Joe Vandepopuliere. Other alumni events are the 1960 theater reunion, alumni band reunion, the 1956 football team reunion and women in athletics reunion.

This year, the University wants the homecoming theme to stand for the University's long-standing tradition of service.

"I am very excited about this year's upcoming homecoming because it's the best time of the semester," Jusitn Anderson, student, said.
